My Journey to Ayurveda

I am eternally grateful for having discovered Ayurveda and for the continuous nourishment I receive from this ancient wisdom. It truly feels like my Dharma to walk this path and share its profound gift with the world.

As I reflect on the beginning of this journey, I trace it back to my childhood love of nature and the special tree near my home where I found solace during times of turmoil, particularly as a sensitive child. From that early connection, the essence of Ayurveda has always been a guiding force in my life.

However, there was one particularly pivotal moment in 2005 when I was divinely guided to Tashirat Orphanage, Mexico—a magical place that housed a spiritual school and orphanage focused on nutrition, yoga, and meditation. I arrived there with the intention to give and serve, but instead, I received so much more.

The transformative power of love and the resilience of the children, coupled with the unwavering dedication of the staff who became their family, left an indelible mark on my heart.

It was here that I truly understood the meaning of health and wellness—not just as physical well-being, but as the high frequencies of love, joy, and the immense power within each of us.

I must also acknowledge the founder of Tashirat, Thyera Artimia Arian, whose work—particularly her teachings in Cosmic Reawakening—greatly shaped my understanding of life. Thyera’s insights, drawn from Eastern philosophy, yoga, and cosmic knowledge received through meditation, fuelled the deep desire already within me, to seek truth: the truth of who we are, why we are here, and how we can navigate this journey. While intellectual understanding is one thing, embodying these truths is an entirely different, transformative experience.

During my time at Tashirat, I engaged in many roles: caring for the children, leading art classes, organising and cleaning, tending to the garden, learning yoga and meditation, and embracing the principles of true nutrition and health. I slept under the stars in my tent, and the lessons I learned there have profoundly shaped my life. I remain forever grateful for the children, staff, and Thyera at Tashirat. As much as I didn’t want to leave, I eventually returned home. However, the journey that awaited me was not without its challenges—marked by trauma and loss. Yet, through it all, a glimmer of hope never dimmed. I knew my purpose was to be of service to others, and so I pursued a career in counselling, while simultaneously deepening my spiritual practice and passion for health and wellness.

Throughout my personal growth journey, Ayurveda kept appearing in my life, and after a personal loss, I came across a book on Ayurveda that felt like a sign. Ayurveda, with its perfect integration of spirituality, holistic health, and medical wisdom, became the point where my spiritual path, health journey, and counselling practice converged into one beautiful, ancient wisdom. It offers the key to living a life of health, happiness, joy, and bliss, while understanding the truth of who we are.

Driven by this newfound clarity, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about Ayurveda before taking the leap into formal training in 2020 with Dr. Deepika Rodrigo at the Ayurveda Institute UK.

The timing was perfect, with everything going on that year, and Ayurveda became the guiding light I had long been seeking, providing much-needed clarity during these turbulent times.

Ayurveda teaches us about our unique constitution, helping us understand our bodies, minds, and spirits in ways that make everything make sense. It offers wisdom on nutrition that allows us to correct imbalances and disorders, while emphasising the importance of balance in all areas of life.

We work to make a living, but when we align with our Dharma, we never truly “work” because our work becomes an expression of love and purpose. This, I believe, is one of the greatest secrets to living a happy and fulfilling life.

Moreover, Ayurveda teaches us to live in harmony with nature, aligning ourselves with the seasons—taking time to rest and rejuvenate in the winter, blossoming in the spring, and reaching our full potential in the summer. We then go through a process of reflection and renewal in the autumn before beginning the cycle anew, just as nature does.

The ancient maxim “Know Thyself” resonates deeply here, as Ayurveda encourages us to truly understand ourselves and take responsibility for our health and well-being. It is not a one-time practice, but a way of life—one that empowers those who fully immerse themselves in its wisdom. The love and beauty inherent in Ayurveda are a reflection of the divine, and finding this wisdom is like emerging from darkness into the warm embrace of home—coming home to who we truly are.
