“The natural force within each of us is the greatest healer of disease.” Hippocrates
Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a profound, ancient wisdom that has guided human well-being for thousands of years. The word Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit terms ayu, meaning life, and veda, meaning science or knowledge. As Dr. Vasant Lad refers to it in his book The Science of Self-Healing, Ayurveda is the oldest known system of medicine still practiced worldwide today.
The goal of Ayurveda is to restore balance and bliss to the mind, body, and consciousness, ultimately helping us achieve optimal health. Since we are made of the same basic elements as the universe, and guided by the same cosmic intelligence, we are microcosms of the macrocosm.
Ayurveda works with these elements through a combination of herbal medicine, massage, nutrition, spiritual insight, practical experience, scientific analysis, and artistic creativity. Together, these tools help us balance our doshas, or bio-energies, and return to a state of vibrant health.
What modern science is now discovering as groundbreaking insights into the human body, Ayurveda has known for millennia. Take, for example, the importance of the gut microbiome, which we now understand as the cornerstone of immunity and happiness. In Ayurveda, the gut is regarded as the centre of health—where disease begins and healing unfolds.
Another example is the growing recognition of circadian rhythm’s impact on health. Ayurveda has long emphasised living in harmony with nature’s rhythms, including eating locally and seasonally.
As the sister science of yoga—both originating from the same Vedic texts and the Samkhya philosophy of creation—many in the West are familiar with yoga. Ayurveda is considered the healing arm of yoga, as both work to restore balance in the mind, body, and consciousness.
Like yoga, Ayurveda has the potential to guide us back to our true selves, helping us return to our natural state of health and well-being. This journey involves balancing our doshas, or bio-energies, through mindful dietary and lifestyle changes.
If you choose to embrace Ayurveda, you will gain deeper self-knowledge. We begin with a thorough analysis of your current health and imbalances, then create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your dosha and specific health needs. While this journey requires effort and dedication on your part, it’s about making a lifestyle change and taking control of your health. It is the ultimate act of self-love—deciding you deserve to be the healthiest and happiest version of yourself and making the necessary changes because you are worth it.

Ayurvedic Approach
1.
Diet
Dietary changes can help restore greater balance to our bodies. Nature provides everything we need, but depending on our current state of health, the foods we consume can have either a positive or negative impact, bringing us closer to or further from optimal well-being. There is no one-size-fits-all approach—this is a personalised process tailored to your unique needs.
2.
Lifestyle
Just like our diet, the daily choices we make and the actions we take have a significant impact on our state of balance, either positively or negatively. Activities like spending time in nature can have a deeply healing effect, while things like late nights, being cooped up indoors, staying in a job we dislike, or being in a toxic relationship can all detract from our health and well-being.
3.
Ayurvedic Herbs
As part of your treatment, we may incorporate specially formulated herbal preparations. These herbs are used to stimulate digestive fire or enzymes, support the body’s natural detoxification processes that may have become obstructed, calm the nervous system, balance hormones, promote restful sleep, and much more.
4.
Know Thyself
Embarking on an Ayurvedic journey inevitably leads to a path of self-discovery. Too often, we navigate life without conscious awareness of who we truly are, what we love, and where we’re ultimately headed. By taking responsibility for our own health, we reclaim control of our lives and begin living with greater consciousness, leading to a happier, more balanced, and fulfilling existence.
